Clarke has already seen Nathan PattersonAaron Hickey and Lewis Ferguson ruled out of the remainder of the season by their club bosses.

Uncertainty still looms over Stuart Armstrong, Grant Hanley and Kieran Tierney who have all recently suffered setbacks as well.

But now he will need to add another one of his heroes to his watchlist after his injury crisis deepened further today.

Star player Scott McTominay is the latest player to potentially emerge as a doubt after he was forced off during Manchester United‘s 1-1 draw with Burnley at Old Trafford.

The midfielder didn’t start the match but he replaced Kobbie Mainoo in the second half while the tie was level at 0-0.

Coming on in the 65th minute, the 27-year-old couldn’t see out the remainder of the clash as he had to be replaced in stoppage time following a knock.

He looked in distress as he made his way off the pitch and could be seen thumping the ground while holding his knee.

It’s the last thing the Tartan Army boss would have wanted to see after recent concerns over many of his other players.

The midfielder was a standout during Scotland’s qualifying campaign, scoring seven goals and providing one assist during the eight games on their road to the tournament.

He would be a sure thing to start all three fixtures in Germany against the hosts, Switzerland and Hungary but Clarke may now be forced to rethink his plans.

It’s unclear how serious his injury is at the moment so soon after the blow but the Scotland boss will be hoping it’s a speedy recovery for the goal-scoring centre-mid.
