Embarrassing moment Open Goal star hits golf ball out of bounds at St Andrews

ANY golf fan dreams of playing the Old Course at St Andrews.

But that dream turned into a nightmare for one former Rangers and Scotland star – who topped his drive STRAIGHT OUT OF BOUNDS with his very first shot.

Open Goal podcast host Kevin Kyle had the opportunity to play the famous links alongside Jimmy Bullard and Soccer AM cult hero Tubes, as part of a guest appearance on the Golf Life YouTube channel.

The trio played a scramble match at the Home of Golf with fellow podcast hosts Simon Ferry and Paul Slane acting as caddies.

Moments before teeing up, Kyle said he had “dreamed of this moment all my life.”

But he failed to properly connect with his driver and shanked his golf ball far to the right and it rolled off of the course altogether.

Needless to say, Open Goal chums Ferry and Slane burst out in hysterics at his expense.

With a crowd assembling behind them to watch the action, Ferry shouted: “He’s had a shocker!

“‘I’ve waited for this all my life!'”

Slane said: “I didn’t even see it, did you?”

Former Wigan Athletic, Fulham and Hull City hero Bullard joined in the ribbing.

He laughed: “Out of bounds on the first at St Andrews!”

Kyle then pulled Bullard’s hand onto his chest and said “feel my heart” to which Bullard replied “oh, he’s got angina!”

He somewhat redeemed himself down at the first green, holing a key putt to halve the hole just seconds after he was reminded of his opening drive, which he described as “horrific”.

Minutes earlier, as Tubes introduced the episode, Kyle had another awkward moment as he left the presenter hanging when he asked him for a handshake.

Tubes said: “Welcome back to the channel, welcome to this video you Golf Life legends.

“Home of Golf, St Andrews. I mean, I never though we’d be here. Unbelievable.

“We are with Open Goal, Kev Kyle…”

Tubes then reached out for a handshake but the ex-Sunderland, Kilmarnock and Hearts frontman was totally unaware until Bullard pointed it out.

Tubes then said: “Don’t leave me hanging, don’t leave me hanging!” and Kyle duly responded.

He said: “Sorry Tubes, sorry Tubes.”

The pair then teamed up as a pair to face Bullard in a nine-hole match and would go on to win 2&1.
