SHANE Lowry carded a final round 76 to finish way back the field at a raucous WM Phoenix Open.
The Clara star will be disappointed with his final round after a solid 56 holes during a stop-start week at TPC Scottsdale.
Lowry played 31 holes in a marathon Saturday after rain and frost played havoc with the schedule.
He resumed on Sunday with four holes to play to complete his third round with Birdies at the last two holes to card a 68.
But the scoring proved more difficult in the final round, with three bogeys in his opening seven holes as he went on to sign-off for a final round of +5 to sit way back in the field on -3 for the tournament.
The Offaly star needed a huge Sunday to have any chance of qualifying for next week’s ‘Signature’ event at The Genesis Invitational.
The 2019 Open champion’s finish has seen his slump further outside the world top-50.
Last week marked the Irishman’s lowest position on the OWGR since he won his first major at Royal Portrush.
He dropped to 51, and has now slipped a further two place to number 53.
He will now miss the third ‘Signature event of the 2023 campaign after failing to win or make it into the The Aon Swing 5.
The Aon Swing 5 includes the top five FedExCup point earners who accumulate the most FedExCup Points during the swing of tournaments between Signature Events.
Meanwhile, Nick Taylor rode a late surge to secure victory in the second hole of a play-off against Charley Hoffman at TPC Scottsdale.
Unfortunately the event was marred by a number of exchanges between fans and players, it is thought up to 220,000 fans dawned the Arizona course on Saturday evening.
