Scotland announces squad for T20 World Cup 2024; Michael Jones and Brad Wheal return

Scotland have bolstered their squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 with the return of experienced campaigners Michael Jones and Brad Wheal. The 15-man squad was announced by Cricket Scotland on Monday.

Key Players Return to Boost Scotland’s Hopes

Both Jones and Wheal were noticeably absent from Scotland’s recent T20I tri-series against Netherlands and Ireland. However, they have secured clearances from their respective county sides, Durham and Hampshire, to participate in the prestigious global tournament. Their experience will be a valuable asset for Scotland as they aim to make a strong showing in the T20 World Cup.

Squad Leverages Experience and Continuity

The rest of the squad features a blend of experience and exciting young talent. Richie Berrington will continue to lead the side, while stalwarts like Matthew Cross, George Munsey and Safyaan Sharif provide stability. The inclusion of Charlie Tear from Sussex 2nd XI represents an opportunity for a fresh face to make his mark on the international stage. The core of the squad has been together for a while, fostering valuable team chemistry honed during their successful runs in the recent 50-over and T20 World Cup qualifiers.

Watson also praised the team spirit and looked forward to getting to know the new member, Charlie Tear.

Scotland’s Group Stage Challenge

Scotland have been placed in Group B alongside England, Australia, Oman and Namibia. The group stage promises to be a test of their grit and determination. Scotland’s journey begins on June 4th against England at the Kensington Oval in Barbados
