‘So surprised’: Houston teen honoured for impressive achievements



Dylan Galloway, 18, was honoured at the Tennis Scotland Awards 2024.

This includes his for his work as a Tennis Scotland Apprentice Coach at Prestwick Tennis Centre, and for working with tennis development initiatives such as disability tennis and school sessions while undertaking his coaching qualifications.

The teenager, who is a fan of Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu, was also recognised for his pleasant and cheerful manner which has made him a popular figure among staff and players at Prestwick.

The ceremony was hosted by Rhona McLeod at the Stirling Court Hotel on March 29.

The Gazette: Dylan Galloway was hailed a rising star by Tennis Scotland.

Dylan, member at Strathgryffe Tennis Club, said: “I was so surprised and delighted to win the award and want to thank Prestwick Tennis Centre and Strathgryffe for helping to me develop.

“I also need to mention my mum as she helped me get onto the Tennis Scotland Apprenticeship programme.”

A total of 21 awards were handed out as the tennis and padel tennis community celebrated a year of success and growth for the sport.

Blane Dodds, chief executive at Tennis Scotland, said: “Congratulations to Dylan, who came up against tough competition but was a deserving winner in our Rising Star category at the Tennis Scotland Awards 2024.

“We want to offer our thanks to Dylan and all the individuals and organisations who work tirelessly to further the growth and development of tennis in Scotland.

“With an all-time high club membership, increasing participation and record entries at competitions, we have real momentum in Scottish tennis and, as we celebrate the many successes of 2023, we look forward to the rest of this year with huge confidence.

“Many of our Award winners now go ahead to the LTA British Awards later this year and we wish them all the best of luck.”
